BBC Report | America’s child death shame
[TRIGGER WARNING] Over the past 10 years, more than 20,000 American children are believed to have been killed in their own homes by family members. That is nearly four times the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Adoptees are more likely to be abused and murdered by their adoptive families:
Children residing in households with adults unrelated to them were 8 times more likely to die of maltreatment than children in households with 2 biological parents (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 8.8; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.6-21.5). Risk of maltreatment death also was elevated for children residing with step, foster, or adoptive parents (aOR: 4.7; 95% CI: 1.6-12.0), and in households with other adult relatives present (aOR: 2.2; 95% CI: 1.1-4.5).

I want to throw up.
Reblogging for the receipt
Dear Edward Demarco,
Please allow our family to purchase back our house so we can return to the home that we were wrongfully evicted from. We can afford to pay and we want to return to our community.
Why is this important?
As my family stood up against the banks’ unjust foreclosure, we were joined by hundreds of thousands of people around the country. With support from Occupy Homes MN, we traveled to Freddie Mac’s offices in Chicago and to their national headquarters in Washington, D.C. to demand they work with our family and others like us who are at risk of losing their homes.
Though we were evicted after 5 raids on the house, during which 37 of our friends were arrested while peacefully defending our home, our story gained national media attention. Our story is inspiring many other families to fight back.
And it isn’t over. I just learned that our family’s home has been placed on the market for sale and now we have a chance at winning back our home once and for all.
Thanks to all of your support, PNC Bank has come to the table and agreed to work with our family to buy back our home at a reduced price reflecting real market value that our family can afford.
Unfortunately, Freddie Mac, who now owns the property, is refusing to sell it to us.
Will you stand with us to demand Freddie Mac let us buy our home back and sign our petition?
Freddie Mac has a malicious policy against selling homes back to the families they evict. Together, we’ve come a long way to reach an agreement with PNC and now Freddie Mac is all that stands between our family and our home. With your support, we can win back our home.
As my brother David says, “The strength that we have is the power of truth, the power of justice. We may not have millions of dollars but what we have is love, what we have is truth, what we have is each other.” We are continuing our fight for justice, not only for our own family but for all families facing unjust foreclosures and evictions. We shall not be moved.
Si se puede,
On Dec 6, Mohammed was driving his wife, who was having a panic attack, to the hospital when he was stopped by the police. They arrested him after finding out his undocumented status and transferred him to Broward Transitional Center, where he has been ever since.
Mohammed is a low priority deportation. He has a U.S. citizen wife and son who need him by their side. Tell ICE to let him go by signing the petition and making a phone call.
For each day Mohammed is detained tax-payers are spending $166 for his detention. Mohammed’s expired tag was no more than a few hundred dollars and now tax-payers have spent over $50,000 keeping Mohammed in detention.

Death Row prisoner Steve Champion, Tookie’s friend, on hunger strike since Oct. 4
Flood the San Quentin warden and Corrections spokespersons with calls and emails calling for justice for Steve Champion, and sign the petition
Word has just reached us that Steve Champion, a prisoner on San Quentin’s death row well known as an inspirational advocate for justice and as one of the trio with Stanley Tookie Williams and Anthony Ross, began a hunger strike last Thursday, Oct. 4. His demands – still unmet – are listed in “The struggle never stops,” published in the July Bay View and reprinted below, and he asks that all who believe in justice call and write the warden and Corrections Department (CDCR) spokespersons to say:
“We are aware of Steve Champion’s hunger strike and concerned for his health. We look to you to respond to him promptly, constructively and appropriately.”
Call and write:
- San Quentin Warden Kevin Chappell, Kevin.Chappell@cdcr.ca.gov or (415) 454-1460
- CDCR Press Secretary Jeffrey Callison, Jeffrey.Callison@cdcr.ca.gov
- CDCR Deputy Press Secretary Terry Thorton, Terry.Thornton@cdcr.ca.gov.

Yes to all of this. What the Taliban did was unspeakable, but what we’re doing is just as bad.

Last week, ColorOfChange along with partners at MoveOn.org, Change.org and Ohio Organizing Collaborative delivered more than 80,000 petition signatures to Secretary of State Jon Husted’s office demanding full access to the polls for Ohioans. But so far, he has ignored our demands.
Will you help us hold Husted accountable for restricting access to the polls in Ohio? Please make a phone call to his office and demand that he restore weekend voting hours throughout the state.
please call if possible, and please pass this around.

TAMALA WELLS: DETROIT, MICHIGAN
9/10/2012: Tamala Wells (33) of Detroit, Michigan hasn’t been seen or heard from since 8/6/2012 and the white, four-door Pontiac Grand Prix she was driving was found abandoned on Coventry Street, between Lantz Avenue and Emery Street. At the time of her disappearance, the mother of two was living with her boyfriend who claims Tamala was “just going out to take care of some business.” Tamala’s brother, Ricardo Wells, said he talks to or sees his sister usually 5 times a week and says it’s totally uncharacteristic of her not to contact anyone. Tamala is 5’6” and 150 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing a white shirt and jean shorts. Anyone with information on Wells’ whereabouts is asked to call the Detroit police at 313-596-5240 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
I’m gonna need everyone to read this before they open their mouth to talk about the Civil War and how slavery wasn’t a major part of it.
Yes. The war was about slavery.
Sec. 3 (3) The Confederate States may acquire new territory; and Congress shall have power to legislate and provide governments for the inhabitants of all territory belonging to the Confederate States, lying without the limits of the several Sates; and may permit them, at such times, and in such manner as it may by law provide, to form States to be admitted into the Confederacy. In all such territory the institution of negro slavery, as it now exists in the Confederate States, shall be recognized and protected be Congress and by the Territorial government; and the inhabitants of the several Confederate States and Territories shall have the right to take to such Territory any slaves lawfully held by them in any of the States or Territories of the Confederate States.
Stop erasing my history because it makes you feel better.
Gonna take it one step further and add in the Cornerstone Speech, which was given by the Vice President of the Confederate States of Amerikkka, Alexander H Stephens:
The constitution, it is true, secured every essential guarantee to the institution while it should last, and hence no argument can be justly urged against the constitutional guarantees thus secured, because of the common sentiment of the day. Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the government built upon it fell when the “storm came and the wind blew.”
Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition.
The Confederacy was nothing more than a white supremacist fantasy circle jerk.
May every single one of those fuckers burn in hell for fighting to keep my ancestors enslaved.
